Uncanny X-Men Renumbering

Press Release from Marvel:
"New York-June 16, 2011-Marvel is pleased to announce X-Men: ReGenesis, a bold new direction redefining the X-Men franchise! X-Men: ReGenesis kicks off this fall in Uncanny X-Men #1 & Wolverine and the X-Men #1 and its ramifications will send shockwaves throughout every X-Book and the Marvel Universe! Prepare for the X-Men's new dawn as former allies head off in different directions, taking with them your favorite X-Men characters. Following the unforgettable outcome in X-Men: Schism, mutantkind will be asking one another "Who will you follow?" and their answers may surprise you! Never before have there been TWO teams calling themselves the X-Men and never has anyone had to choose a side. Guided by their different ideologies, each leader has their own mission for saving their species, but is only one of them right?

This October, Marvel Architect Jason Aaron and superstar artist Chris Bachalo launch Wolverine And The X-Men #1, assembling a team led by Logan himself with a line-up that nobody will see coming. Then, in November, history is made with Uncanny X-Men #1. From the superstar writer Kieron Gillen and artists Carlos Pacheco & Greg Land, new leadership rises with a renewed, refocused, and re-imagined group of Uncanny mutants.

"Years of X-Men history have been leading to this. X-Men: ReGenesis will affect our entire line leading up to a major conflict coming up in 2012!" said Marvel Editor in Chief, Axel Alonso. "This is just the start of what we have planned for the X-Men. Next summer all eyes will be on mutantkind – we guarantee it!"

Two new teams lead mutantkind into an all new era and will have everyone asking "Who will you follow?" – only in Wolverine & The X-Men #1 and Uncanny X-Men #1!"

Ow, my head. What the hell Marvel, your canceling Uncanny X-Men after 544 issues and 49 years just to replace it with Uncanny X-Men as a new #1, why? I understand after Schism the X-Men are dividing into two separate camps and new titles are in order but you don't cancel a title just to put a new #1 out with the same title. You could of just continued the numbering along with the release of Wolverine and The X-Men #1, which is not a great title by for an X-Men comic by the way, doesn't Wolverine have and had enough of titles with he's name in it.

Did Marvel in 1991 cancel and renumber or replace Uncanny X-Men when X-Men (Vol.02) came out? No, Uncanny focused on the Gold team and and Vol.02 focused on the Blue team with out missing a beat. If you were really serious about retiring the Uncanny X-Men title you would of replaced it with a completely new title with a new word before of after X-Men like; Astounding X-Men or X-Men: Utopia. Also "Wolverine and The X-Men"?, you had to lift a title from a failed animated series, you couldn't come up with something on your own like X-Men: Renegades or X-Men: Defiant, come on your spose to be the House of Ideas.

As a long time X-Fan and comic book collector I'm disappointed in you Marvel cause we both know you love your legacy titles with triple digit numbers that's why you changed Thor into Journey Into Mystery to make it over 600 and that when the time comes in two years you'll move Uncanny X-Men back to it's original numbering to make it #600. I thought you would of learned for all the negative feedback DC is currently facing cause of their recent restart marketing ploy. With Amazing Spider-Man currently at #664 nearing #700 in about two years, and Journey Into Mystery currently at #624 being the only two longest going numbering still printing I'd thought it be apparent to keep other big numbers on the racks to show the legacy of such great titles.
